Finally, a local children’s sing-along book

It all started when a Malaysian mother who was living abroad could not find musical books in Bahasa for her son. “I searched but could not find any in Bahasa. Catching the entrepreneur bug, I set out to create one myself,” says Lok Lee Jiun.

Many of us have fond childhood memories listening and singing along to these famous folk songs such as Rasa Sayang, Burung Kakak Tua, Chan Mali Chan, Anak Itik Tok Wi, Gelang Sipaku Gelang and many more. But with Disney and Youtube English music taking over our world, the folk songs are becoming quite foreign to our children which makes it even more important how the Baba Baa’s musical button book is going to help the way our children learn about our roots.

Malaysia is a beautiful country filled with rich diverse culture and there is no better way to express it than through a children’s book, bonus part – it comes with 7 music buttons and it even records your singing for an interactive bonding time between the parents and the child!

“When I started working on the book, I knew I wanted something that would engage both kids and adults—something that could bring families together and represent the colourful culture of Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.”

The cardboard pages feature beautiful illustration and lyrics with English translation which means even the non-native Malay speakers can learn and pick up on the meanings behind the original lyrics.

“These are songs that most Malaysians, Singaporeans, and Indonesians will be familiar with,” Lee Jiun said. “They’re beautiful and mesmerising and should be passed down to the next generations.” She also believes that electronic gadgets can never replace books, especially for young children.
